Unabashed Plugs

Got this illustration many moons ago (months, actually) from Madeleine, a writer, blogger and MySpace buddy with love for Bronx Biannual. Determined to share it with the world someway somehow, having a blog is perfect to present the opportunity. Many thanks Madeleine! This weekend, I’ll be in talks with the cover illustrator of Issue 3; I’d keep it suspenseful, but fuck it, it’s A. L. Dre. More next week, but this brother has held it down for over a decade creating the comical back page of The Source, and I’ve always loved his work.

Speaking of books… gotta bring attention to 33 1/3 Greatest Hits, Vol. 2 as well as Approaching Literature in the 21st Century, both released this month with my writing somewhere therein. My exegesis ranting on Sly and the Family Stone’s There’s a Riot Goin’ On, from my 33 1/3 book of the same name released last year, will be excerpted in Continuum Books’ Greatest Hits, Vol. 2. As well, my looong interview with the late great playwright August Wilson for The Believer magazine, already available in The Believer Book of Writers Talking to Writers, will now be taught in universities nationwide. Approaching Literature in the 21st Century is a weighty college textbook (at least to my understanding) from St. Martin’s Press, dropping its second edition in a week or two including my convo with Wilson.
