Hey Mr. Lewis. It’s Sidik from allhiphop.com. I just started a blog at cornerboyjazz.blogspot.com and I was wondering if you could do me the honor of adding a link to it on your page. I will do the same for yours on my page and will post your writing on my blog from time to time. Let me know what you think. Thanks for reading this!

MML at 12:34 AM on 07/06/09:

you got it, sidik, good luck!

Hello MML,

About a year ago, this white Spanish expatriate in Paris (since January 2008) asked for your advice regarding the Bootsy Collins Tribute to James Brown at Bataclan. You told me to go for it, I did and enjoyed it immensely. Thank you for that!

I am travelling next week to NYC for 5 days. I think I have got a basic plan for having a go at the sights and for some shopping (gluten-free products for my wife). But I would like your advice on where else I should go. I (modestly) consider myself a quite good music and film fan, go regularly to music concerts (among the most recent ones were Roy Hargrove @ New Morning, Maceo Parker @ Enghien, Suzy y los Quattro – Spanish power-pop @ La Mecanique Ondulatoire) and have read a lot of books on the subject (Peter Guralnick, Nelson George…). The last one I read (three times!) that made me think “How little I know!” was “Funk: The Music, The People, and The Rhythm of The One” by Rickey Vincent with a George Clinton foreword. I need to get a Graham Central Station record!

Anyway, I would like your advice on where to go. If you are not for this type of places: – A music / record shop – A bar / club with concerts or good music – A bookstore – A place of music significance (for example, I want to visit first the Apollo, then the Brill Building, but not so sure about Carnegie Hall – despite the Big Joe Turner “Spirituals to Gospel” appearance / Stevie Ray Vaughan) – Any other place (restaurant…).

Of course, if you need me to bring you anything from NYC, please feel free to ask and I shall do my best to oblige.

Thank you for any help!

Yours,

Antonio

… And, of course, if you feel that the advice I am requesting is not something you really want to do (you have this “just because I am from the US does not make me a tourist guide / advisor / consultant” feeling), I shall understand and still read your page.

Thank you again!

The Man From Kazakhstan at 7:58 AM on 07/23/09:

Sorry for the garbled editing :( The places I want to visit are a music & record shop / a bar or club with concerts of good music / a bookstore / a place of musical significance / any other place (restaurant, square,…)

I have been following your blog since a while and I must say you are stupendous. Although I might have not commented in any of your previous articles, I truly believe they all were amazing.
